The Drugs and Death E.P. (2006)

We’re in Seattle now. I moved to Seattle by way of Olympia on a whim in the summer of 2006 when I met some people who needed a driver. That in and of itself is a long story but this E.P. was recorded in the basement of a house called The Holy Land. Taylor Wingett played drums, Maria Russell sang backup vocals, and the great Seth Ariel Walot played keys. I made CDs of this with dried flowers in the sleeves and left them at the record stores around town. Many years later I got an email from someone who found one in a thrift store.

The Aylmer E.P.  (2005)

This little E.P. was one of the first things I made when I moved to San Francisco and got a recording setup going. This was in the basement of a house called The Pink House on Oak and Buchanan and I recorded it on a little Fostex four-track with one or two microphones. Many, many more recordings would be done in this space and when we all finally got evicted from this house I can’t say that the constant noise of drums and guitars at all hours wasn’t a contributor. The name of this E.P. comes from the movie Brain Damage, which, if you haven’t seen it, you must.

Always Playing the Accordion (2005)

This album was meant to be under the name FROWN, as were many of these recordings. I was always starting fresh with a new name as if that would fix me. This one has a lot of different styles and genres throughout it and was recorded in The Pink House basement once again. Thomas Crawford produced the beats for the hip-hop tracks, though. I thought this was lost for many years but my ol’ pal Clark had a cassette of it that he carried around for about 15 years and I was able to transfer it in all its warbly glory.
